Soak the coconut shell
Please soak your coconut shell in water for 2–3 hours or overnight before every use – otherwise the combination of dry air and moist soil can cause stress cracks in the shell.
Let the coco soil swell
1. Place a coco soil brick in your Grow-Grow Nut and moisten it under a gently running tap. Always add just small bursts of water. Note: In rare cases, the coco soil bricks are pressed a little harder. If so, we recommend soaking a brick in a separate container with 250 ml of lukewarm water for 2–3 minutes and then spreading the soil evenly in the Grow-Grow Nut.
2. The coco soil brick swells up within a few minutes. Then gently press the soil into a level surface. Tip: Your fingertips or the bottom of a glass work well for this. It's important that the surface is as level as possible, so the seeds can be spread nice and evenly.
Choose your seeds
3. Now place your Grow-Grow Nut on a flat dish or small plate.
4. Pick a seed variety and spread it evenly over the soil, then press the seeds down lightly and mist them from above with a spray bottle. Pour off any excess water.
Put the cover on
5. Place the enclosed cover on the shell – or cut the cover out of your Grow-Grow Nut packaging – so the seeds can germinate in the dark and the humidity is retained better.
6. Leave at room temperature until the seedlings push the cover up (after about 2–3 days). Now remove the cover and put the Grow-Grow Nut in a bright spot (ideally no direct sunlight for the first few days).
Check the moisture
7. Check the moisture every day and water your Grow-Grow Nut when needed: stand it in a bowl or deep plate of water for 5–10 minutes (water level approx. 2 cm).
8. After about 6–8 days you can harvest your microgreens. Our recommendation: cut them with scissors just above the root (don't eat the roots or the soil).
Enjoy your meal!
Mould or root hairs?
Don't worry – these are so-called "micro roots", which are part of the germination process and completely harmless!
Mould usually forms in one spot and spreads from there, while micro roots sprout everywhere pretty much overnight.
